SAE J2450
SAE J2450 is a standard published by SAE International (formerly the Society of Automotive Engineers) titled "Recommended Practice for Heavy-Duty Vehicle Event Data Recorder (HVEDR) Minimum Data Set". It defines the minimum data elements that should be recorded by a Heavy-Duty Vehicle Event Data Recorder (HVEDR) system in the event of a crash or near-crash situation.
The standard aims to promote a consistent and reliable method for collecting and retrieving data from HVEDRs to facilitate accident reconstruction, safety research, and fleet management. The recorded data can include information such as vehicle speed, engine RPM, brake status, steering angle, and other relevant parameters.
SAE J2450 specifies which data elements are mandatory for inclusion in the HVEDR minimum data set. It also outlines recording requirements, such as pre-crash data capture duration and post-crash data preservation. The standard assists manufacturers in designing HVEDR systems and provides a framework for data interpretation by investigators and analysts.
