Phobetor

Phobetor, in Greek mythology, is one of the sons of Nyx (Night) and the personification of nightmares. Along with his brothers Morpheus (who shapes dreams of humans) and Icelus (also known as Phantasos, who shapes dreams of animals and inanimate objects), he is one of the Oneiroi, the collective of dreams.

Phobetor specifically takes the form of beasts and monsters in dreams, instilling fear and dread in the dreamer. He is the one who brings the most terrifying aspects of sleep, the disturbing visions that plague the subconscious. While Morpheus might craft a pleasant or informative dream, and Icelus a whimsical one, Phobetor is responsible for the frightening and unsettling experiences during sleep.

The name "Phobetor" itself is derived from the Greek word "phobos," meaning "fear" or "terror," reflecting his role as the bringer of nightmares. Although less prominently featured in classical literature compared to Morpheus, his existence underscores the ancient Greek understanding of the complexities and varying natures of dreams.
