RatDog
RatDog was an American rock band formed in 1995. It was primarily a side project of Bob Weir, guitarist and vocalist for the Grateful Dead. Following the death of Jerry Garcia in 1995 and the subsequent disbanding of the Grateful Dead, Weir focused primarily on RatDog.
The band's music blended various genres, including rock, blues, jazz, and folk, often incorporating improvisation and extended jams, hallmarks of the Grateful Dead's style. RatDog's lineup fluctuated over the years, but core members included Bob Weir (guitar, vocals), Jay Lane (drums), Rob Wasserman (bass), and Matthew Kelly (harmonica, guitar, vocals). Later iterations featured a different lineup after Wasserman's death and other personnel changes.
RatDog toured extensively throughout the United States and occasionally internationally, building a dedicated following. They released several albums, including "Evening Moods" (2000) and "Live at Roseland" (2001). The band was known for its dynamic live performances and the unique interpretations of both original material and covers.
In 2014, Bob Weir announced that RatDog would be taking an indefinite hiatus as he focused on other projects, including Dead & Company with former Grateful Dead members. Although RatDog hasn't officially disbanded, they have not performed together since 2014.
