Thomas Claiborne (1749–1812)
Thomas Claiborne (1749–1812) was an American planter, lawyer, and politician from Brunswick County, Virginia. He served in the Virginia House of Delegates multiple times between 1783 and 1809, representing Brunswick County. He was also a member of the Virginia ratifying convention in 1788, where he voted against the ratification of the United States Constitution. Claiborne was a prominent figure in local politics and held various county offices throughout his life. He married twice and had several children. His family was part of the influential Claiborne family of Virginia, many of whom held important positions in the colony and later the state. His political career reflected a commitment to states' rights and a degree of skepticism towards a strong central government. He died in Brunswick County in 1812.
