29th Division (German Empire)
The 29th Division was a unit of the Prussian Army, and thus part of the German Army, during World War I. It was formed in 1890 and headquartered in Freiburg im Breisgau. The division was primarily composed of troops from the Grand Duchy of Baden.
The 29th Division participated extensively on the Western Front throughout the war. It saw action in the opening battles of the war, including the Battle of the Frontiers and the First Battle of the Marne. It was involved in the Race to the Sea and the fighting around Ypres in 1914. Throughout the war, the division was involved in positional warfare in various sectors of the Western Front. It participated in battles around Verdun in 1916 and the Third Battle of Ypres in 1917. In 1918, it participated in the German spring offensive, including the Battle of St. Quentin.
After the armistice, the 29th Division returned to Germany and was demobilized.
