George W. Barrett (bishop)

George W. Barrett (born 1931, died 2014) was an American prelate of the Episcopal Church. He served as the Bishop of Rochester, New York, from 1984 to 1995.

Barrett was a graduate of Hamilton College and the General Theological Seminary. Prior to his consecration as bishop, he served in various parishes within the Diocese of Central New York. He was known for his advocacy for social justice, particularly concerning poverty and racial reconciliation. During his tenure as Bishop of Rochester, he oversaw the establishment of new ministries focused on community outreach and engagement. He also played a significant role in interfaith dialogue within the region. Following his retirement, Barrett remained active in the church and community affairs until his death in 2014.
