William Drake (1747–1795)
William Drake (1747–1795) was a British politician who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Amersham. He was the eldest son of William Drake and his wife Elizabeth Raworth.
He was educated at Eton College and Merton College, Oxford.
Drake entered Parliament in 1768, representing Amersham, a seat controlled by his family. He held this seat until his death in 1795. His political affiliations are generally described as Tory or Country Party, reflecting a traditional landed gentry perspective.
His parliamentary career was not marked by significant oratory or leadership roles. He primarily concerned himself with local matters and issues of interest to his constituency.
He married Mary Hussey, daughter of William Hussey. They had issue, including William Drake, who also served as MP for Amersham.
Upon his death, his son, also named William Drake, succeeded him as MP for Amersham, continuing the family's long association with the constituency. He is buried in Amersham.
