Cubers

Cubers, in the broadest sense, refers to individuals who engage in the activity of solving mechanical puzzles, most commonly the Rubik's Cube and its variants. However, the term encompasses solvers of a wide range of twisty puzzles, shape mods, and other similar puzzles requiring dexterity, spatial reasoning, and algorithmic knowledge.

The term "cuber" is most frequently associated with speedcubing, the practice of solving these puzzles as quickly as possible, often in competitive settings. Speedcubers learn and memorize algorithms, practice finger tricks to execute these algorithms efficiently, and develop the ability to predict the solution path through inspection of the scrambled puzzle.

Beyond speedcubing, cubers may also be involved in other related activities. These include:

  • Collecting: Many cubers collect different puzzles, ranging from standard variants to rare or custom-made puzzles.
  • Designing: Some cubers design and create new twisty puzzles or modifications to existing ones.
  • Modifying: Cubers may modify existing puzzles to improve their performance or create unique aesthetics.
  • Teaching: Experienced cubers often teach others how to solve puzzles, either in person or online.

The cubing community is a global network of individuals who share a common interest in solving these puzzles. They connect through online forums, social media groups, and competitions, sharing knowledge, techniques, and camaraderie. The World Cube Association (WCA) is the primary governing body for official speedcubing competitions worldwide.
