Constructed as a grand entertainment venue, the Lyric Theatre primarily staged theatrical productions, including musicals, operas, and plays. It also served as a cinema at times. Its architectural style reflected the popular entertainment venues of the period. The theatre played a significant role in Sydney's cultural life for several decades. The theatre was eventually demolished to make way for other developments.
