Boilie

A boilie is a boiled dough ball, primarily used as fishing bait, particularly for carp. They are typically made from a mixture of ingredients such as fishmeal, semolina, soy flour, bird food, milk proteins, and flavorings. The mixture is rolled into spherical shapes, boiled to create a firm outer skin, and then air-dried.

Boilies are popular due to their durability and resistance to nuisance fish. The hardened outer layer makes them less susceptible to being nibbled away by smaller fish, allowing them to remain on the hair rig (a specific type of fishing rig) for longer periods. This gives carp anglers a better chance of attracting larger, target species.

The size, color, flavor, and ingredients of boilies can be varied to suit different fishing conditions, water temperatures, and the preferences of the fish in a particular location. Anglers often experiment with different boilie formulations to find the most effective bait for their target species and fishing style. Shelf-life boilies contain preservatives to extend their usability, while freezer boilies are made without preservatives and require freezing for long-term storage.
