Reed Gym
Reed Gym, officially known as the Jane Wertheimer and David Gilbert Memorial Gymnasium, is the primary athletic facility at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. It houses a gymnasium used for basketball, volleyball, and other indoor sports, as well as weight rooms, fitness areas, locker rooms, and offices for the athletic department. The building also accommodates physical education classes and recreational activities for students, faculty, and staff.
The gym is often used for campus-wide events beyond athletics, such as large lectures, dances, and orientations. It serves as a central gathering place for the Reed College community. The facility has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years to accommodate the evolving needs of the college's athletic and recreational programs. While not a large or modern sports complex by the standards of larger universities, Reed Gym plays a vital role in the college's commitment to promoting physical well-being and fostering a sense of community. The building is named in honor of Jane Wertheimer, a long-time Reed College supporter and wife of former Reed President David Gilbert.
