Capitol Theatre (Port Chester, New York)

The Capitol Theatre is a historic concert venue located in Port Chester, New York. Opened in 1926 as a movie palace, it was designed by noted theater architect Thomas Lamb. During its early years, it primarily screened films and hosted occasional vaudeville performances.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Capitol Theatre became a prominent rock music venue, hosting legendary acts such as the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and many others. This era is considered a golden age for the venue, solidifying its place in rock and roll history. The Grateful Dead alone played over 30 shows at the Capitol Theatre.

After a period of decline and closure in the late 1990s, the Capitol Theatre underwent extensive renovations. It reopened in 2012 under the management of Peter Shapiro, the owner of the Brooklyn Bowl. The renovated venue maintains its historic architectural details while incorporating modern sound and lighting technology.
