John Bastard (cricketer)
John Bastard (1856 – 1918) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Oxford University and Somerset between 1877 and 1882.
Born in Dorchester, Dorset, Bastard was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm slow round-arm bowler. He appeared in 13 first-class matches, scoring 163 runs with a highest score of 25 and taking 11 wickets with a best performance of three wickets for 57 runs.
Bastard was educated at Sherborne School and Brasenose College, Oxford. His career highlights include playing in the University Match against Cambridge University in 1877 and making several appearances for Somerset in their pre-first-class period.
After his cricketing career, he became a solicitor. He died in Blandford Forum, Dorset.
