Rise (American TV series)
Rise is an American musical drama television series created by Jason Katims, inspired by the 2013 book Drama High by Michael Sokolove, which chronicled the real-life story of high school teacher Lou Volpe and his award-winning theater program at Harry S Truman High School in Levittown, Pennsylvania.
The series centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (played by Josh Radnor), a passionate English teacher and family man who takes over the struggling drama department at a working-class high school in Pennsylvania. Mazzuchelli shakes things up by choosing the controversial musical Spring Awakening for the school's production, facing backlash from some parents and community members while simultaneously inspiring his students and reigniting his own creative spark.
The series explores themes of community, self-discovery, the importance of art education, and the challenges of small-town America. It highlights the power of theatre to transform lives and bring people together. The cast also includes Rosie Perez, Marley Shelton, Auli'i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, and Amy Forsyth.
Rise premiered on NBC on March 13, 2018, and ran for one season consisting of 10 episodes. The series was cancelled in May 2018 due to low ratings.
