John Betts (physician)
John Betts (1648 – 1708) was an English physician and Fellow of the Royal Society.
Betts was born in London in 1648. He studied at St. John's College, Oxford, matriculating on 24 July 1663, and graduating B.A. in 1666, M.A. in 1669, and M.D. in 1679. He was admitted a candidate of the College of Physicians on 26 June 1680, and a Fellow on 25 June 1681.
Betts practiced medicine in London, where he gained a reputation for his learning and professional skill. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society on 22 December 1681. He was appointed physician to Queen Anne.
John Betts died on 5 October 1708, and was buried in the church of St. Botolph, Aldersgate. His writings were primarily medical observations and notes, not published in formal treatises. He left a son, also named John, who pursued a career in law.
