Alan Herbert (Canadian politician)
Alan Herbert (born c. 1930s, died June 10, 2014) was a Canadian politician who served as a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) in Ontario. He represented the riding of Sault Ste. Marie for the New Democratic Party (NDP) from 1975 to 1985.
Herbert was first elected in the 1975 Ontario general election, defeating incumbent Liberal MPP John Rhodes. He was re-elected in the 1977 and 1981 elections. During his time in the Ontario legislature, he served in various critic roles for the NDP opposition, focusing on issues such as natural resources, labour, and Northern Ontario development.
Prior to entering provincial politics, Herbert was a prominent union leader in Sault Ste. Marie, involved with the United Steelworkers of America. He was known for his advocacy for workers' rights and his strong connection to the community.
Herbert did not seek re-election in the 1985 Ontario general election. He passed away in Sault Ste. Marie on June 10, 2014, and is remembered for his dedication to public service and his representation of the interests of the people of Sault Ste. Marie.
