2017 U.S. Open (golf)

The 2017 U.S. Open was the 117th edition of the U.S. Open, one of the four major championships in professional golf. It was held from June 15–18, 2017, at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin, about 35 miles northwest of Milwaukee. This marked the first time the U.S. Open was played in Wisconsin.

Brooks Koepka won the tournament with a score of 16-under-par, tying the U.S. Open scoring record held by Rory McIlroy (2011), Jack Nicklaus (1980), and Jim Furyk (2003). He finished four strokes ahead of Brian Harman and Hideki Matsuyama, who tied for second place.

Erin Hills, a relatively new course designed by Michael Hurdzan, Dana Fry, and Ron Whitten, played long due to wet conditions, and its expansive fairways were considered forgiving by some players. However, the thick fescue rough bordering the fairways proved challenging for errant shots. The course's length was a significant factor, with many players using driver frequently off the tee.

Notable moments from the tournament included a record-equaling opening-round 63 by Justin Thomas on Saturday, which tied the lowest single-round score in U.S. Open history. Jordan Spieth, the 2015 U.S. Open champion, finished in a tie for 35th place. Dustin Johnson, the world number one at the time, missed the cut.

The 2017 U.S. Open was broadcast on Fox in the United States.
