On Guard (serial)
On Guard was a British television drama serial broadcast by the BBC in 1958. It consisted of six episodes and told the story of the officers and men stationed at a remote radar base in Norfolk during the early years of the Cold War. The series focused on the tensions and personal conflicts arising from the pressures of constant vigilance against potential Soviet air attacks, as well as exploring the domestic lives of the personnel involved. The script was written by Robert Barr, and the production was relatively low-budget, typical of early BBC drama. While no recordings of the serial are known to survive in the BBC archives, contemporaneous reviews suggest the program was a moderately successful attempt to depict the human side of Britain's early warning system during a period of heightened international tension.
