VF-71 (1942–1959)
VF-71 was a fighter squadron of the United States Navy. Established on June 1, 1942, as Fighting Squadron 71 (VF-71), it was redesignated Fighter Squadron 14 (VF-14) on November 15, 1946. Subsequently, it was redesignated Fighter Squadron 71 (VF-71) again on August 16, 1948. The squadron was finally disestablished on March 2, 1959.
Throughout its active service, VF-71 participated in various operations during World War II and the Cold War. It operated from numerous aircraft carriers and flew a variety of fighter aircraft including the F4F Wildcat, F6F Hellcat, F4U Corsair, and F9F Cougar. The squadron saw combat in the Pacific Theater during World War II and later served in peacetime deployments and training exercises.
