Black Widow (Chechnya)

A "Black Widow" is a term used to refer to Chechen female suicide bombers, although the term is also applied more broadly to female suicide attackers from the North Caucasus region of Russia. The term gained prominence during the Second Chechen War and subsequent years of conflict and terrorism attributed to Chechen separatists and Islamist groups.

The motivations attributed to these women are complex and varied.
