Rexy (band)
Rexy was a British glam rock band active in the mid-1970s, fronted by vocalist and guitarist Marc Bolan's ex-wife, June Child.
History:
Rexy was formed in 1975 in London, England. The band's lineup consisted of June Child on lead vocals and guitar, John Porter (formerly of Roxy Music) on bass, Andy Brown on guitar, and Andrew Edge on drums. The band was notable for its connection to Marc Bolan and T. Rex, given Child's previous marriage.
Musical Style:
Rexy's music blended elements of glam rock, pub rock, and power pop. Their sound featured strong guitar riffs, catchy melodies, and Child's distinctive vocals. Although connected to the glam rock scene through June Child, Rexy's sound was generally considered less flamboyant and more grounded than that of T. Rex.
Discography:
Rexy released one studio album:
- Rex (1975)
The album received some critical attention but failed to achieve significant commercial success. A few singles were also released, including:
- "Running Out Of Time"
- "Stay With Me Tonight"
Legacy:
Despite their short lifespan and limited commercial success, Rexy has garnered a cult following over the years, particularly among fans of glam rock and power pop. Their album Rex is considered a minor classic by some critics and collectors. June Child's later career included work in fashion and design. John Porter continued as a successful musician and producer, working with artists such as The Smiths, Elvis Costello, and B.B. King.
