William White (bishop of Newfoundland)
William White (1825 – 17 May 1903) was an Anglican bishop of Newfoundland.
Born in Cowes, Isle of Wight, England, White was educated at St. Alban Hall, Oxford, and ordained in 1851. He served as curate of Holy Trinity, Ryde, before becoming vicar of St. Saviour's, Shanklin, and subsequently rural dean of East Wight.
He was consecrated as Bishop of Newfoundland in 1876. During his episcopate, the Anglican Church in Newfoundland expanded its missionary work and strengthened its educational institutions. He was responsible for overseeing a diocese covering a large geographical area with a dispersed population, often requiring long journeys to visit parishes and clergy. White resigned his see in 1901 due to declining health and returned to England. He died in Shanklin on 17 May 1903.
