Simon Denny (artist)

Simon Denny (born 1982, Auckland, New Zealand) is a contemporary artist known for his installations that explore themes of technology, information, and the political and economic implications of their proliferation. Denny's work often incorporates elements of graphic design, corporate branding, and found objects to create immersive environments that critique and dissect complex systems.

Denny's practice is characterized by a rigorous research-based approach. He investigates the structures and languages of technological industries, government agencies, and global corporations, then re-presents these findings through his artwork. His installations frequently incorporate objects like server racks, cryptocurrency miners, and informational pamphlets, mimicking the aesthetics of the institutions he critiques.

Key themes in Denny's work include: the blockchain, surveillance, artificial intelligence, and the future of work. He often focuses on the way these technologies are shaping our understanding of power, identity, and value. He explores how information is controlled, disseminated, and manipulated in the digital age.

Denny represented New Zealand at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015 with his exhibition "Secret Power," which examined the physical infrastructure and visual language of surveillance technologies, particularly focusing on the Snowden revelations. He has exhibited extensively internationally, at institutions including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York; the Serpentine Gallery, London; and the Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin.
