Jack Petersen (boxer)

Jack "Kid" Petersen (2 September 1911 – 25 March 1990) was a Welsh professional boxer who was British heavyweight champion from 1932 to 1936, and British light-heavyweight champion from 1934 to 1939. He was also a leading contender for the world heavyweight title.

Born in Cardiff, Wales, Petersen began his professional boxing career in 1928. He rose to prominence quickly due to his speed, stamina, and accurate punching. He secured the British heavyweight title in 1932 by defeating Reggie Meen. Petersen successfully defended his title against several challengers.

In 1934, Petersen added the British light-heavyweight title to his accolades, becoming a two-weight British champion. He faced world-class opponents throughout his career, including Walter Neusel, but never fought for a world title.

Known for his gentlemanly conduct both inside and outside the ring, Petersen retired from boxing in 1939. He remained a popular figure in Wales and was respected for his accomplishments in the sport. Following his boxing career, Petersen managed several businesses. He died in 1990. His legacy remains as one of Wales's greatest boxing champions.
