Lee Sang-hoon (general)
Lee Sang-hoon (이상훈, born December 24, 1948) is a retired Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) general who served as the 38th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea from 2008 to 2010.
Early Life and Education:
Lee Sang-hoon was born in Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. He graduated from the Korea Military Academy (KMA) in 1972.
Military Career:
Throughout his career, Lee held various key positions within the ROKA, including:
- Commander, 3rd ROK Corps
- Commander, Capital Defense Command
- Deputy Commander, ROK-US Combined Forces Command (CFC)
- 38th Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS)
As Chairman of the JCS, Lee was responsible for overseeing the operational control of the South Korean armed forces and coordinating military operations with the United States Forces Korea (USFK). He served during a period of heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula, including the 2010 sinking of the ROKS Cheonan and the shelling of Yeonpyeong Island.
