Robert Bain (politician)

Robert Bain was a Scottish Labour Party politician. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Caithness and Sutherland from 1972 to 1983.

Born in 1937, Bain was involved in local government prior to entering national politics. He won the Caithness and Sutherland seat in a by-election held on 30 March 1972, following the death of the incumbent, George Mackie.

During his time in Parliament, Bain focused on issues relevant to his Highland constituency, including fishing, agriculture, and rural development. He often spoke on matters relating to the impact of North Sea oil and gas exploration on the region. He also served on various parliamentary committees.

Bain lost his seat in the 1983 general election to Robert Maclennan of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which had formed an alliance with the Liberal Party. Following his defeat, he returned to local government and community service.

Information regarding his specific policy positions and legislative achievements remains limited in publicly accessible biographical sources.
