Spit (album)
Spit is the debut studio album by the Canadian metal band Kittie, released on January 11, 2000, through NG Records. The album gained significant attention for featuring an all-female lineup in the metal genre. Spit blends elements of nu metal and alternative metal, with lyrical themes often addressing personal struggles, aggression, and female empowerment.
The album spawned the singles "Brackish" and "Charlotte," both of which received considerable airplay on rock radio and MTV. "Brackish" in particular became a signature song for the band and is often associated with their early success. Spit was a commercial success, achieving gold certification in the United States and Canada. It is considered a pivotal album in the late 1990s/early 2000s nu metal scene and helped to pave the way for other female-fronted metal bands.
The members of Kittie at the time of the album's release were Morgan Lander (vocals, guitar), Mercedes Lander (drums), Fallon Bowman (guitar, vocals), and Tanya Candler (bass). The album was produced by GGGarth Richardson.
Reception of Spit was generally positive, with critics praising the band's energy and the raw sound of the album, while some criticized the lyrical content as being somewhat simplistic. Despite this, Spit remains a landmark album for Kittie and a significant release within the metal genre.
