Ozark (TV series)

Ozark is an American crime drama television series created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams. It was produced by Media Rights Capital and starred Jason Bateman and Laura Linney as Marty and Wendy Byrde, a married couple who relocate their family to the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri to launder money for a Mexican drug cartel.

The series premiered on Netflix on July 21, 2017, and concluded on April 29, 2022, with a total of four seasons. The show explores themes of family, ambition, morality, and the corrupting influence of money.

The plot follows Marty Byrde, a financial advisor, whose business partner is caught stealing from the cartel. To save himself and his family, Marty proposes laundering an even larger sum of money in the Ozarks, a region he barely knows. The Byrdes are forced to navigate the treacherous world of organized crime, dealing with local criminals, corrupt politicians, and the ruthless cartel while attempting to maintain a semblance of normalcy for their children.

Throughout the series, the Byrdes become increasingly entangled in criminal activities, expanding their money laundering operation and forming alliances with unexpected figures. Wendy, initially hesitant, becomes a more active and ambitious player in the criminal enterprise, often clashing with Marty over strategy and control. The show also delves into the impact of their choices on their children, Charlotte and Jonah, who struggle to cope with their family's dark secrets.

Ozark received critical acclaim for its writing, directing, acting, and cinematography. Jason Bateman won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series in 2019, and Julia Garner won three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. The series also received numerous other award nominations.
