Joseph Wood (congressman)
Joseph Wood (1712 – August 25, 1791) was an American politician and businessman from Greenwich Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey. He represented New Jersey in the Continental Congress in 1778 and 1779.
Wood was born in Greenwich Township and engaged in mercantile pursuits. He was a member of the Gloucester County Committee of Correspondence and served in the New Jersey Provincial Congress from 1775 to 1776. He was also a member of the New Jersey Legislative Council (now the New Jersey Senate) from 1777 to 1779.
As a delegate to the Continental Congress, Wood served on committees dealing with finance and trade. He was a strong supporter of the American Revolution.
After his service in Congress, Wood returned to New Jersey and resumed his business activities. He died in Greenwich Township in 1791 and is buried in the Friends Burying Ground in Mickleton, New Jersey.
