Chir (river)

The Chir River is a left tributary of the Don River in southwestern Russia. It flows through the Volgograd Oblast and Rostov Oblast.

The river is approximately 317 kilometers (197 miles) long, and its drainage basin covers an area of 9,580 square kilometers (3,700 square miles). The Chir River is primarily fed by snowmelt, and its flow is highly variable depending on the season.

Historically, the Chir River region has been inhabited by various nomadic groups and played a role in several significant military campaigns. Its strategic location made it important for controlling trade routes and access to the Don River. Agriculture and fishing are important economic activities along the river's banks.
