Holst (crater)
Holst is a lunar impact crater that lies on the far side of the Moon. It is located to the southwest of the larger crater Alden, and northeast of Von der Pahlen.
Holst is a relatively young and well-defined crater. The rim is sharp-edged and circular, with only minor erosion. The inner walls are terraced and slope down to a relatively flat interior floor. There is a small central peak formation near the midpoint of the crater floor. Several smaller craters lie along the rim and inner walls, but these are generally minor in size.
The terrain surrounding Holst is heavily cratered, reflecting the long history of impacts on the lunar far side. Holst's comparatively pristine appearance suggests it is a relatively recent addition to the lunar surface.
The crater is named after Gustav Holst, the English composer, most famous for his orchestral suite The Planets.
