A.E.K. (sports club)
A.E.K., short for Athlitiki Enosis Konstantinoupoleos (Αθλητική Ένωσις Κωνσταντινουπόλεως), is a major multi-sport club based in Athens, Greece. Founded in 1924 by refugees from Constantinople (present-day Istanbul) in the aftermath of the Greco-Turkish War, the club's name translates to "Athletic Union of Constantinople." The club's emblem is the double-headed eagle, a symbol of the Byzantine Empire, signifying the club's connection to Constantinople.
A.E.K. is best known for its football team, A.E.K. Athens F.C., which is one of the most successful clubs in Greek football history. They have won numerous Greek championships and cups and have also achieved success in European competitions.
