Château de Chambly (Oise)
The Château de Chambly is a ruined castle located in the commune of Chambly, in the Oise department of France. It dates primarily from the 13th and 14th centuries, with subsequent alterations and additions in later periods.
The castle was originally a stronghold belonging to the Counts of Beaumont-sur-Oise. It passed through various hands over the centuries, including the Counts of Dreux and the Dukes of Montmorency. During the Hundred Years' War, the Château de Chambly suffered significant damage.
In the 17th century, the castle was acquired by the family of the Prince de Conti. They undertook some restoration work, but the castle was ultimately abandoned. Today, the Château de Chambly stands as a picturesque ruin, its towers and walls partially intact, offering a glimpse into its medieval past. The site is privately owned and not generally open to the public, although it can be viewed from a distance. The ruins serve as a local landmark and a testament to the rich history of the region.
