Mendonk
Mendonk is a village located in the municipality of Gent, in the province of East Flanders, Belgium. Situated north of the city of Ghent, Mendonk is primarily a rural area characterized by agricultural land and scattered residential dwellings.
Historically, Mendonk has been an independent municipality, but it was merged into the larger city of Ghent in 1977 as part of a broader municipal reorganization across Belgium. Despite its incorporation into Ghent, Mendonk maintains its own distinct identity.
Economically, Mendonk is largely reliant on agriculture. However, due to its proximity to Ghent, many residents commute to the city for work in various sectors, including industry, services, and education.
Culturally, Mendonk has local traditions and community organizations that contribute to its unique character. Parish churches and local festivals are integral aspects of the village's cultural life.
Geographically, Mendonk is part of the Flemish lowlands and is characterized by a flat landscape. The area is relatively close to the border with the Netherlands.
