Hundredth (band)
Hundredth is an American rock band formed in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2008. Initially known for their melodic hardcore sound, the band underwent a significant stylistic shift in the late 2010s, embracing a shoegaze and alternative rock aesthetic.
The band's early releases, including their debut album When Will We Surrender (2010), established them within the hardcore scene. Subsequent albums such as Let Go (2011), Free (2013), and Rare (2015) further solidified their position, showcasing a blend of aggressive instrumentation and melodic vocals.
In 2017, Hundredth surprised fans and critics with the release of the single "Neurotic," which featured a dramatically different sound characterized by atmospheric guitars, reverb-drenched vocals, and a general departure from their hardcore roots. This marked the beginning of their transition to shoegaze.
The band's fourth studio album, RARE (stylized in all caps), released in 2017, fully embraced this new direction, dividing their established fanbase but also attracting new listeners. Their fifth studio album, Somewhere Nowhere, released in 2020, continued to explore this shoegaze and alternative rock sound.
Hundredth's lineup has seen changes over the years. The core members have typically consisted of Chadwick Johnson (vocals), Andrew Minervini (guitar), and Matt Deiner (bass). Their music has been associated with labels such as Hopeless Records.
