Thomas Condon (Irish nationalist politician)
Thomas Condon (1815 - 1901) was an Irish nationalist politician and businessman. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for East Tipperary from 1885 to 1900.
Condon was born in Mitchelstown, County Cork. He was involved in the Nationalist movement for much of his life, supporting the campaigns for Home Rule for Ireland. He was active in the Irish National Land League, advocating for tenants' rights and land reform. His involvement often put him at odds with the authorities, and he was imprisoned on several occasions for his political activities.
Elected to the House of Commons in the 1885 general election as a member of the Irish Parliamentary Party, Condon consistently supported Charles Stewart Parnell and his successors in their efforts to achieve self-government for Ireland. He was known as a respected and hardworking constituency MP. He retired from parliamentary life in 1900.
Condon was also a successful businessman in Mitchelstown, contributing significantly to the local economy. He remained a respected figure in Irish nationalist circles until his death in 1901. His legacy lies in his unwavering commitment to the cause of Irish Home Rule and his dedication to representing the interests of his constituents in East Tipperary.
