NGC 132
NGC 132 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Cetus. It was discovered on September 25, 1790, by William Herschel. The galaxy is approximately 150 million light-years away from Earth and is estimated to be around 70,000 light-years in diameter.
NGC 132 is classified as SBbc, indicating a barred spiral structure (SB) with moderately wound spiral arms (bc). It exhibits active star formation, particularly within its spiral arms, which appear bright and patchy in astronomical images. Its apparent magnitude is around 14.5, making it a relatively faint object requiring a telescope to observe.
The galaxy's redshift has been measured, allowing for an estimation of its distance based on Hubble's Law. This redshift data, combined with studies of its luminosity and stellar populations, provides valuable information regarding the galaxy's age, evolution, and place within the larger cosmic structure.
