SS Zealandic (1911)
The SS Zealandic was a passenger and cargo steamship launched in 1911 for the White Star Line as the Zealandic. She was initially intended for service on the company's Australian routes.
Built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, she was one of the "Big Four" liners ordered to supplement the existing White Star fleet serving Australia and New Zealand. Her sister ships were the Ceramic, Medic, and Suevic. Zealandic primarily carried emigrants and cargo, featuring comfortable accommodations for passengers across multiple classes.
During World War I, the Zealandic was requisitioned by the British government and served as a troop transport and later as a hospital ship. Following the war, she was returned to White Star Line and resumed her commercial voyages.
In 1926, the Zealandic was sold to the Aberdeen Line and renamed Mamilius. She continued to operate on routes connecting the UK with Australia until she was scrapped in 1939.
