KD Avia

KD Avia was a Russian airline based in Kaliningrad, Russia. It operated scheduled passenger and cargo services within Russia and to international destinations, primarily serving Western Europe. Its main base was Khrabrovo Airport (KGD) in Kaliningrad.

KD Avia was formed in 1945 as Kaliningrad United Aviation Squadron, a division of Aeroflot. It became an independent company in 1992 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and was rebranded as KD Avia in 2005. The KD stood for "Kaliningradavia Development."

The airline aimed to position itself as a low-cost carrier in the Russian market, offering a more accessible and affordable alternative to traditional airlines. KD Avia operated a fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft.

KD Avia ceased operations in September 2009 after facing significant financial difficulties, including high debts and an inability to secure further funding. The airline declared bankruptcy, leaving passengers stranded and contributing to disruption in the Russian aviation sector. The bankruptcy marked the end of a significant chapter in Kaliningrad's aviation history.
