Wilfred Risdon

Wilfred Risdon (1885-1969) was a British wood-engraver, illustrator, and painter. He is best known for his detailed and evocative wood engravings, often depicting rural scenes and landscapes.

Risdon studied at the Slade School of Fine Art. He developed a distinctive style characterized by meticulous detail and a strong sense of atmosphere. His wood engravings were often used to illustrate books and periodicals. He was a member of the Society of Wood Engravers and exhibited widely throughout his career. His work can be found in numerous public and private collections.

Beyond wood engraving, Risdon also produced paintings, primarily watercolors, often capturing similar subject matter to his engravings. He contributed significantly to the revival of wood engraving as a recognized art form in the early 20th century.
