Agents (Finnish band)
Agents is a Finnish band known for its Rautalanka (Finnish instrumental rock) and rock and roll music. The band was formed in 1979 by guitarist Esa Pulliainen.
Agents initially focused on instrumental Rautalanka, heavily influenced by bands like The Shadows. They gained popularity in Finland for their instrumental covers and original compositions in the genre.
A significant turning point in Agents' career came with their collaboration with Finnish singer Rauli "Badding" Somerjoki in the 1980s. This collaboration produced a series of highly successful albums that blended Agents' Rautalanka sound with Somerjoki's melancholic vocals, resulting in a unique and iconic sound in Finnish popular music. Some of their most well-known songs from this era include interpretations of classic Finnish schlager and rock songs.
Following Somerjoki's death in 1987, Agents continued to perform and record with various other vocalists, including Jorma Kääriäinen, Topi Sorsakoski, Ville Valo (of the band HIM), and Vesa-Matti Loiri. Each collaboration brought a different dynamic to the band's sound, while maintaining their core Rautalanka identity.
Agents has remained a prominent and influential band in Finland, recognized for their contribution to Finnish rock and roll and for their collaborations with some of the country's most beloved singers. Their music continues to be popular and is considered a significant part of Finnish musical heritage. The band has released numerous albums and continues to tour and perform. Esa Pulliainen remains the central figure and driving force behind the band.
