HMS Spence

HMS Spence was a British S-class submarine of the third batch built for the Royal Navy during World War II. She was laid down on 27 September 1943 by Cammell Laird and Company, launched on 23 October 1944, and commissioned on 22 January 1945.

Spence served in the Far East for the remainder of the war, operating against Japanese shipping and other targets. She is credited with sinking several Japanese vessels, including a coaster and a number of smaller craft.

Following the end of World War II, Spence remained in service with the Royal Navy. She was eventually sold to Portugal in 1948 and renamed Narval. In Portuguese service, she continued for a number of years before being decommissioned and scrapped.

Her commanding officers during her service in the Royal Navy included Lieutenant Kenneth Henry Uhl Roe.
