2nd Corps (Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina)

The 2nd Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBiH) was one of the largest and most strategically important corps within the ARBiH during the Bosnian War (1992-1995). Its area of responsibility primarily covered the northeastern region of Bosnia and Herzegovina, specifically the Tuzla region and surrounding areas.

The Corps was formed in response to the escalating conflict and the need for a structured defense against Bosnian Serb forces (VRS) and other hostile elements. Its main objectives were to defend the territory under its control, protect the civilian population, and maintain communication lines.

The 2nd Corps was composed of various brigades and units, often formed from local volunteers and pre-war Territorial Defence units. These units participated in numerous battles and operations throughout the war, often facing significant challenges due to limited resources and equipment.

Key areas of operation for the 2nd Corps included the defense of Tuzla, Gradačac, Brčko, and other strategically important locations in northeastern Bosnia. The Corps played a vital role in preventing the complete capture of the region by opposing forces and in providing a degree of security for the civilian population, which included a significant number of refugees.

Following the end of the Bosnian War and the signing of the Dayton Agreement, the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was integrated into the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The 2nd Corps, like other ARBiH corps, was disbanded as part of this process. However, its legacy remains significant as a symbol of resistance and defense during a period of intense conflict and hardship.
