David MacDonald (director)
David MacDonald (born 9 May 1904, Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire, Scotland; died 8 June 1973, London, England) was a Scottish film director, screenwriter and producer. He primarily worked in British cinema, directing a variety of genres including thrillers, comedies, and war films.
MacDonald began his career in the film industry as an assistant director and editor before transitioning to directing in the late 1930s. He directed over forty films during his career, including notable titles such as Dead Men Are Dangerous (1939), This Man Is Mine (1946), Good Time Girl (1948), Christopher Columbus (1949) starring Fredric March, Cairo Road (1950), and Petticoat Pirates (1961). His work often showcased strong storytelling and competent craftsmanship, contributing to the British film landscape during its formative years.
Beyond feature films, MacDonald also directed episodes of various television series, extending his career into the 1960s.
