Electoral district of Williams (New South Wales)
The Electoral district of Williams was an electoral district of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in Australia. It was created in 1859 and abolished in 1894. It was named after the Williams River, located in the Hunter Region of New South Wales.
The district generally encompassed the rural areas surrounding the Williams River and its tributaries, including the towns of Clarence Town, Dungog, and surrounding agricultural lands. Its boundaries shifted somewhat during its existence to reflect population changes and the creation of new electoral districts.
Notable members who represented Williams included prominent figures in New South Wales politics. The constituency was primarily agricultural, reflecting the dominant economic activity of the area. The political leanings of the electorate varied, often depending on issues related to land use, agricultural policy, and local infrastructure development.
Following its abolition in 1894, the area covered by the Electoral district of Williams was largely absorbed into the new district of Durham.
