A humidor is a storage container specifically designed to maintain a constant and optimal level of humidity, primarily used for storing cigars, though it can also be used for other hygroscopic items that require controlled humidity, such as wooden musical instruments or certain types of documents. The primary function of a humidor is to prevent the cigars from drying out, thus preserving their flavor, aroma, and burn characteristics. Conversely, it also prevents them from becoming overly moist, which can lead to mold growth.

Spanish cedar also helps to repel tobacco beetles, a common pest that can damage cigars. Other materials like acrylic or other woods can also be used, but Spanish cedar is generally considered superior for cigar storage.
Humidors come in a variety of sizes and configurations, ranging from small travel humidors holding only a few cigars to large walk-in humidors capable of storing thousands. Desktop humidors, cabinet humidors, and travel humidors are common types.
Proper maintenance of a humidor is essential to ensure its functionality.
