KKFX-CD
KKFX-CD is a low-power Class A television station licensed to serve Bend, Oregon, United States. It broadcasts a digital television signal on UHF channel 31 from a transmitter near Pilot Butte State Park. The station is owned and operated by NPG of Oregon, LLC, a subsidiary of News-Press & Gazette Company.
KKFX-CD serves as a repeater of KTVZ, the NBC-affiliated television station for Central Oregon, also owned by News-Press & Gazette Company. It rebroadcasts KTVZ's programming to areas that may have difficulty receiving the main station's signal, particularly within the city of Bend. This allows for improved reception and coverage of NBC programming in the immediate Bend area.
As a low-power station, KKFX-CD operates with a significantly lower effective radiated power (ERP) than full-power television stations. This means its broadcast signal has a more limited range. Low-power stations like KKFX-CD often fill in coverage gaps left by full-power stations or provide service to smaller, more geographically constrained communities.
The "-CD" suffix in the call sign indicates the station's low-power Class A status. Class A stations have certain protections against interference from other broadcast services, offering a greater degree of signal stability than standard low-power television stations.
The station's programming primarily consists of NBC network shows, local news provided by KTVZ, syndicated programming and public service announcements. KKFX-CD does not typically produce its own original content outside of its simulcast of KTVZ programming.
