Shamsin
Shamsin is a hot, dry, and often dusty wind that blows across Egypt and parts of the Eastern Mediterranean, primarily during the spring months (March to May). It originates from the Sahara Desert and carries large amounts of sand and dust, significantly reducing visibility and impacting air quality. The wind can cause a rapid increase in temperature, leading to uncomfortable and sometimes hazardous conditions. The name "Shamsin" is derived from the Arabic word for "fifty," referring to the approximate duration of the period during which these winds frequently occur, although they may blow for shorter or longer spells.
