Lou (2017 film)
Lou is a 2017 American computer-animated short film produced by Pixar Animation Studios. Directed by Dave Mullins and written by Mullins and Dana Murray, it was released in theaters alongside Pixar's Cars 3 on June 16, 2017. The short film centers on Lou, a creature formed from lost-and-found items in a school's lost-and-found box, who teaches a bully named J.J. to respect other children's belongings.
The story follows Lou as he observes J.J. stealing toys from the other children during recess. Lou initially frustrates J.J.'s thievery by hiding the toys, but eventually confronts him directly. After a struggle, Lou shows J.J. what it feels like to have something precious stolen, leading J.J. to understand the pain he has been inflicting on the other kids. J.J. ultimately returns all the stolen toys and begins to play fairly with his classmates.
Lou was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 90th Academy Awards. The short is notable for its use of expressive animation and its simple, yet effective, message about empathy and the importance of sharing.
