Strati (automobile)
The Strati was a 3D-printed car developed by Local Motors. It was first unveiled in 2014 and represented an early attempt at using additive manufacturing for the creation of a complete vehicle. The car's chassis, exterior body panels, and some interior components were created using large-scale 3D printers. The Strati utilized a Renault Twizy electric powertrain. While the Strati was not intended for mass production and was more of a proof-of-concept vehicle, it highlighted the potential of 3D printing in automotive manufacturing, allowing for rapid prototyping, customized designs, and potentially reduced manufacturing costs in the future. The name "Strati" is believed to be derived from the word "stratum," referring to the layered approach of 3D printing. The car demonstrated the possibility of creating a functional vehicle using a drastically different manufacturing process compared to traditional automotive production.
